Quick Guide – How to use your Shaka Wind Meter?
Where do I get the iOS app from?
Shaka app available for iPhone on the App Store
Go to App Store™ for Shaka Weather Station, you should be able to find it easily. Go ahead and install the app.
Once downloaded and after first launch you are prompted to create a user account. You have to have a working internet connection for this since a connection to our backend database is required. We require registration in order for us to keep track of your measurements and settings and to provide a better service. Please use a valid email address while signing up.
After that all you have to do is navigate to “Measure” screen, plug in the device to the headphone port, adjust the volume level of your iOS device and start measuring.
How do I change app settings (measurement units etc.)?
First – ensure you have Shaka app version 1.2 or newer installed. Once you do, click on the Settings icon (cogwheel on top right) -> Units and select the ones which work for you best.
My device does not appear to work (no wind speed, no temperature reading). What do I do?
Please check the following things:
In case of iOS7 there’s a new privacy setting that needs to be enabled in order for Shaka app to work: Settings -> Privacy -> Microphone -> Shaka. There is also a prompt for this right after installation and first launch of the app. Microphone access is needed in order to get messages from Shaka device, no hidden big brother there.
You should have Shaka Wind Meter app version 1.2 or newer installed in order for being able to use your device.
Be sure to turn the volume level of your iOS device to maximum in order to properly power up the device (since we do not use a battery)
Go to iOS Settings -> Accessibility and ensure that you do not have “Mono audio” enabled. We need the juice from both audio channels.
In case you have an iOS device purchased in Europe, you probably have an additional setting under Settings -> Music -> Volume Limit called “EU Volume Limit”. Please turn that off.
Why don’t I see my measurements on the map under Discover view in the app?
The map displayed under the “Discover” view is actually a web application that will be publicly available for all to see pretty soon, also in the browser. For turning on/off publishing of your measurements go to app Settings (by clicking the cogwheel icon) -> Publish. You can publish or unpublish single measurements in the History view.
Is there any other way (web map) to view my measurements?
Yes, right here.
